In his first season, the Bengals were a terrible 4-12, and Nugent only attempted 19 field goals all year, making 15. All of his misses were from 40 yards and longer. He kept the job into 2011, and in year two, he was great, setting a new team scoring record for a single season with 132 points scored. He was incredible from 40 yards or longer, making 14 of 16 kicks. He had one bad game against the Arizona Cardinals where he missed two attempts, but still finished second in the league in made field goals. He was also in the top 10 in FG percentage despite the two misses.
Going into 2012, Nugent is expected to be a big part of a Bengals team on the rise. They will once again need him to be accurate, and maybe make some huge kicks. He is working on a long-term contract which would keep him here for a while. The Bengals would be wise to get this done, as Nugent is a Pro Bowl-caliber kicker. Fans have clamored for a clutch kicker for many years, and Nugent seems to fit the bill.
