Morning Headlines: Joe Flacco not Worried about New Deal

Ravens QB Joe Flacco is focused on the upcoming NFL season, and not a new contract. After watching Ray Rice and Haloti Ngata get long-term deals this offseason, Flacco was hoping to get a long-term deal as well, as he believes he is amongst the NFL’s elite class of QBs. Because the Ravens have no other priority free agents going into next offseason other than he and safety Ed Reed, Flacco is a strong candidate to receive the tag during the next offseason, as the Ravens can’t afford to lose their young franchise QB.

Minnesota governor Mark Dayton is blaming player arrests on the idle time they get during the long NFL offseason.

Police say they witnessed Marshawn Lynch’s white van weaving in and out its lane and nearly collided with two other vehicles before he was arrested early Saturday morning.

Saints MLB Jonathan Vilma has undergone three procedures on his left knee since November.

Because of two prior incidents with the law, Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch will likely be handed a lengthy suspension if convicted of DUI.

Former Redskins defensive end Dexter Manley is suing the NFL as a result of a brain cyst he developed from playing football.

Cris Carter believes Lion WR Calvin Johnson is the most dangerous weapon in the NFL.

An Ed Reed family member has stated that Reed’s not going to hold out on the Ravens.

The Steelers have re-signed LT Max Starks to a one-year contract. The former third-round pick out of Florida has been one of the more consistent Steerlers lineman, but injuries have plagued his career recently and led to the team letting him go this offseason. One has to wonder if this means the team isn’t sold on 2nd-round pick Mike Adams, who slid to the Steelers late in the 2nd-round after being projected as a 1st-rounder for much of the NFL draft process.
