Discipline is the Bengals Focus of the Night

We all know the final standings of the pre-season have no impact on the regular season. No better example of that in league history than the Detroit Lions 2008 winless season which followed their undefeated pre-season.

What I want to see is a well-disciplined team with attention to detail and familiarity with the system. Tonight is a great contrast with the New York Jets. They’ve brought more drama to New Jersey than the Mob and Housewives combined.

They have a diva wide receiver, training camp brawls, a quarterback controversy, and a coach that seems to be losing control. I remember when the Bengals had dysfunction. Now it’s just smooth sailing. The biggest controversy this training camp has been Mike Brown charging $10 for a concert for season ticket holders. (On a side note the Lions did the same thing for $10 and there was no riot). I’ll take that any day.

These things need to be done to get to the next level. Special teams, no penalties, and being where you are supposed to be will be what I’m looking for tonight. It’s going to be great to see how Andy and A.J. take a leadership role with the team. Dalton’s command of the huddle and Green correcting any mistakes by rookie receivers Sanu and Jones.

I am excited to see BenJarvus Green-Ellis play tonight to. By all accounts he is a great guy, and there are two qualities he does not share with Cedric Benson. Crying about not getting the ball, and fumbling.

The offensive line will need time to get in-sync. The two additions of Wharton and Zeitler should help the running game. This unit could rival the 1988 o-line which may have been the best in team history.

It’s just great that the season is back. Let’s all hope for a healthy pre-season that lays the groundwork for a Super Bowl season.
