Today’s practice was the final session before the team departs for Atlanta to face the Falcons in a matchup that will feature two playoff teams from a year ago hoping to ascend to the next level and avoid the first-round exit both teams fell victim to last season. Two notables on the injury report today were LB Thomas Howard and DT BranDon Thompson as they were not practicing today. Howard did not practice due to illness. He’s probable for Thursday.
The rest of toady’s non-participants due to injury were RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis (foot), LB Rey Maualuga (knee), WR Ryan Whalen (hamstring), S Tony Dye (foot), CB Adam Jones, CB Jason Allen, DE DeQuin Evans, DE Robert Geathers (knee), CB Shaun Prater (knee), CB Brandon Ghee (wrist), RB Bernard Scott (hand), DE Carlos Dunlap (knee), CB Dre Kirkpatrick (knee), and DT Pat Sims (ankle).
Geno Atkins was the defensive player dawning the coveted gold jersey in practice today, signifying he’s had a number of great practices. IT should come as no surprise, as Atkins is on the cusp of becoming one of the NFL’s elite defensive tackles and should begin getting some much-do recognition this year.
Swing tackle Dennis Roland was getting snaps at the second-team left guard. It may seem a bit concerning seeing the Bengals trying out their backup tackles at guard. My guess is their just doing their due diligence to not only explore all of their options to replace the productivity lost by Travelle Wharton, but also to prep those players in case a rash of injuries mount up at the guard spot.
