Afternoon Sports News: Giants OF Melky Cabrera Suspended 50 Games, & Jason Witten has Lacerated Spleen

Giants OF Melky Cabrera has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for Testosterone, a performance-enhancing substance. He was the MVP of the MLB All-Star Game, and is batting .346 with 11 home runs and 60 RBIs.

 

Jaguars OT Eugene Monroe was carted off the field at today’s practice.

 

Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett said that TE Jason Witten has a lacerated spleen, and will at the very least miss the entire preseason.

 

49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh expects TE Delanie Walker (knee) to be available for start of the regular season.

 

Jets WR Santonio Holmes and DT Sione Pouha could miss the entire preseason.

 

It appears the Titans’ starting quarterback job is now Jake Locker’s to lose.

 

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson thinks he’s moving closer to the starting job.

 

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Jahvid Best (concussions) is likely to open the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
