Chad has become a villain in the NFL world, and deserves a lot of the criticisms that he gets. His behavior became more extreme as time went on, and it caught up with him. He was a lot of things throughout his career, and while attention-seeker was definitely one, there are lots of others ways to describe him: fun to watch, unpredictable, interesting, and talented receiver are just the beginning. If it turns out that Chad is guilty of what he’s accused of, he deserves whatever penalty he gets, as there’s never an excuse for spousal abuse, but as far as Chad the player, fans have to remember that he was once the pride of Cincinnati. As his career has begun to wind down, his antics have become a little less entertaining and he’s become almost a parody of himself. His efforts to stay relevant have become less fun, and more sad. Hopefully his story will resonate with future Bengals, and help them avoid the pitfalls that Chad faced. Fans can hopefully take heed as well. Chad gave his all for many years, and we helped make him into what he is now. I hope he is able to overcome the personal issues he has and find success from here forward, and I’ll remember him, not for the sideshow, but for the main attraction, his on-field performance. Chad Ochocinco was too large for his own good, but Chad Johnson was a hell of a player, and that’s what I’ll remember.
