Everyone loves seeing Domata Peko‘s hair on the screen when watching our Bengals play. Every time I watch a game with my friends, I hear them ask, “Who is the huge dude with the Lion mane?”
I laugh and simply tell them, “That’s Peko, Domata Peko.” Peko is entering his 7th NFL season, and he doesn’t turn 28 until late November, he is still in the known NFL “prime”. It goes without saying Peko has gotten progressively better since entering the league as a 4th round draft pick in 2006. It also goes without saying that he is the anchor of our defense, without Peko, our defense not only loses 320 pounds of pure run stuffing talent, they lose a non-stop motor in pass defense up the middle.
His motor is second to none, he receives raving reviews from Bengals coaches for it every year. He is always in the top of the League in tackle for defensive lineman, of course everyone can improve their game, since He has been here in Cincy, Peko has only registered 7.5 sacks. He has, however, done a great job disrupting the pocket; his motor and strength allow him to reek havoc to many O-lines.
Peko has vowed to improving this aspect of his game, along with Pat Sims, it was actually both players’ point of emphasis this past off-season. This should have Bengals fans very excited; with Geno Atkins doing his job at an elite level, the more pass rush the Bengals can get from the trenches the more chances we, as Bengal fans, get to enjoy wins. Here’s to Domata Peko having his best year yet setting the tone for our defense helping us get to the playoffs.
