As we get closer to the date of August 31st, the day that all NFL teams must have their rosters shaved down to 53 players, most of the projected roster is set in stone, while a number of players are fighting their hearts out for those last few roster spots. Their dreams of making onto an NFL roster are within their grasps, and now they must seize the opportunity before them, or risk seeing their NFL dreams fade to black.
Injuries have muddled the Bengals current situation, as starting center Kyle Cook‘s injury that may cost him the whole year likely secures backup center Trevor Robinson’s roster spot. If Cook isn’t placed on IR right away, it also means the team will essentially have to cut an extra player to keep Cook, Robinson, and a potential free agent center on the roster. Here’s the list of players we believe are on the bubble entering Thursday night’s preseason finale against the Colts:
FB James Devlin
CB Jason Allen
OG Otis Hudson
DE DeQuin Evans
WR Ryan Whalen
LB Vincent Rey
CB T.J. Heath
CB Chris Lewis-Harris
These are the players who the Bengals coaching staff will be up late at night deciding if they should be on the team or not. I believe Heath and Lewis-Harris are on there due to the uncertain injury status of CBs Dre Kirkpatrick, Jason Allen, and Adam Jones, which may force the team to keep one of those two on the final 53-man roster. I don’t however expect either of them to be on the roster when the team opens against Baltimore, as the team is likely to be active on the waiver wire, and they could be cut in favor of a more experienced CB.
