In celebration of the first college football Saturday of the year, we did a brief roundtable with some of our writers and got their opinions and predictions on how the 2012 college football season will play out, and here’s what we came up with:

Heisman Winner- Matt Barkley, QB, USC

Barkley had a huge season last year and set a Pac-12 record with 39 touchdown passes. What’s even more impressive is that he threw the ball 446 times, but only threw 7 interceptions. He is the frontrunner for the Heisman.

#1 Overall Pick in the 2012 NFL Draft- Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin

I thought about going with Barkley, but I think that whoever has the #1 pick will not pass on a stud running back. Ball ran for over 1,900 yards last season and scored 33 rushing touchdowns. He also added in over 300 receiving yards and 6 receiving touchdowns. He is also my #2 pick for the Heisman.

2013 #1 NFL Draft Pick: Matt Barkley goes to the Arizona Cardinals. Barkley is the #1 quarterback prospect, and the Cardinals will need a breath of fresh air after another long season of John Skelton/Kevin Kolb at the helm.
