The #2 Alabama Crimson Tide opened up their title defense as they annihilated the #8 Michigan Wolverines in a season-opening 41-14 victory Saturday night. The crowd of 90,413 was the largest ever for a college game at Cowboys Stadium. The Tide rushed for 231 yards, including 111 yards on 11 carries by freshman back T.J. Yeldon. Tide junior QB A.J. McCarron tossed in 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Tide jumped out to a 31-0 lead and never looked back.
Buccaneers RB LeGarrette Blount could be on the trading block. They signed former Giants RB D.J. Ware Saturday, making Blount expendable with rookie RB Doug Martin set to receive the majority of carries already.
Jags RB Maurice Jones-Drew will be ending his holdout and report to the team today and will likely be ready to play in the teams’ week 1 opener.
Seahawks TE Anthony McCoy’s improvement contributed to Kellen Winslow’s release, along with the team signing TE Evan Moore, formerly of the Browns.
As Browns RB Trent Richardson recovers from his knee scope, he is likely to be used in a limited capacity and get very few carries in Week 1 against the Eagles if he is able to practice this week and take the field for opening day.
The Chargers offensive line continues to be injury-plagued, and undrafted rookie Mike Harris will start at left tackle for the team early in the season. They’ve already ruled out LT Jared Gaither for Week 1 against the Raiders with a lower back injury.
