The Bengals were hit with devastating news toady as starting weakside linebacker Thomas Howard will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL he suffered in practice. It wasn’t until yesterday’s practice that Howard was listed on the injury report for the first time with a knee injury, and now he is done for the year after the team placed him on the season-ending injured reserve list. Making matters worse for Howard is he’s in a contract year, and now his NFL career is in question going forward, but hopefully he can recover and bounce back next year. If he can prove his healthy, the Bengals will undoubtedly have interest in bringing him back, as he led the team in tackles last season and was the best Bengals defender not named Geno Atkins.
The team did announce that they are bringing back middle linebacker Roddrick Muckelroy, who can play all three LB spots, and started at MLB for three of the teams’ preseason games but released two weeks ago. He will take Howard’s roster spot.
