Scouting the AFC North: Michael Vick was Almost a Steeler

When the Steelers battle the Eagles in the Battle for Pennsylvania on Sunday, Pittsburgh’s offensive strategy will involve trying to match Pro Bowl WR Antonio Brown with Eagles rookie CB Brandon Boykin, who Brown refereed to as “the candy bar”. Its also worth noting that the Steelers are 25-7 vs. NFC teams dating back to 2004, courtesy of Russell Baxter.

If head coach Mike Tomlin would have had his way in 2009 when current Eagles QB Michael Vick was released from prison, Vick would have been signed by the Steelers. The Rooney family had ultimate say and decided not to sign Vick, who had just finished serving a 21-month sentence for running a dog fighting ring.

New Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said through a spokesman today that personnel changes “are not something we’ll discuss until after the year”meaning current head coach Pat Shurmur’s job appears safe at east for now.

After suffering a devastating hit at the hands of the Ravens last week that lead to a concussion and not being able to return to the game, Browns WR Josh Cribbs is set to return this week as he tries to help prevent his team from falling to an 0-5 start as they battle the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants.

As the Ravens take on Kansas City this week, Chiefs DE/LB Tamba Hali recalls Ray Rice as a trash talker from their matchup in the 2011 Wild Card matchup.

Safety Ed Reed disagrees with $21,000 fine he received for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Patriots receiver Deion Branch, and says the NFL is changing the game and not for the better.
