The biggest news of the day came when the Bengals announced backup RB Bernard Scott is now on season-ending injured reserve list, meaning that not only is his 2012 season over, but entering an offseason in which he’ll be a free agent who has missed more games due to injury(6) than he’s reached the endzone(4), don’t expect to see him back in Bengals stripes, and don’t expect the Bengals to bring in another back to replace him:

If that is the route Marvin chooses to go, it certainly won’t be the only bad decision he makes this week. Jay Gruden shared his sentiments, saying today that practice-squad RB Daniel Herron won’t be ready until later in the season. Gruden also said he’s confident in giving Brian Leonard or Cedric Peerman more carries.

As for the rest of the roster going forward, first-round CB Dre Kirkpatrick is still practicing without any setbacks and is on pace to return sometime between the teams’ Week 8 Bye-Week and the November 4th showdown against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Once he returns, don’t be surprised if reserve CB Jason Allen is cut. Allen has missed all but one game after missing much of the preseason and training camp with various ailments, so he’ll be one of the more expendable players on the roster once Kirkpatrick is active and healthy.

DE/LB Dontay Moch was officially activated to the roster today after he was kept inactive last week as he was brought up to speed after missing the first month of the season with  his suspension for PED use. It’s unlikely he’ll be ready to contribute this week against the Browns, or next week vs. the Steelers on Sunday Night Football, but with the teams’ Bye-Week right after this AFC North divisional stretch of games, he should be ready to get a significant number of snaps when the Bengals face Denver in Week 9.

As for future roster moves, don’t expect to see any this week, but DT Pat Sims is set to return from the PUP list next week, meaning the Bengals will need to cut someone to make room for him. Look for DE Wallace Gilberry or TE Richard Quinn to get their pink slip then.
