NFL News and Views: 49ers Edge Seahawks

The 49ers and Seahawks kicked-off Week 7 in an NFC West battle for supremacy, and it was a defensive struggle throughout that saw the 49ers claim a 13-6 victory and sole possession of the NFC west lead for the time being.

Despite all of the turmoil in Philadelphia on the eve of defensive coordinator Juan Castillo being fired, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports QB Michael Vick and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg will keep their jobs coming out of the bye in Week 8. Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid previously stated that he wasn’t done making moves after firing Castillo, but it looks as though canning his OC or starting QB won’t be one of the moves he makes.

Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan admits WR Pierre Garcon is a long shot to play this Sunday vs. Giants.

Despite suffering a torn triceps that will likely cost him the remainder of the 2012 season, Ravens MLB Ray Lewis has already vowed to return for an 18th season in 2013.

Houston CB Johnathan Joseph misses practice, but Texans expect him to play.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger left practice Thursday with a right ankle injury but it’s not considered serious. It was however the same right ankle he badly sprained last season.

The Saints are holding out hope that All-Pro TE Jimmy Graham (ankle) will be available vs. the Bucs in Week 7.
