Scouting the AFC North: Controversy in Pittsburgh, and Ravens Better off with no Ray Lewis?

Former Steelers team doctor Richard Rydze has been charged with conspiracy to distribute steroids, HGH, and painkillers. Ryzde worked 22 years for the Steelers, and faces 185 counts relating to his practices since leaving the team.

Despite the fact that future hall-of-fame middle linebacker Ray Lewis is likely done for the season with a torn triceps, the Ravens have historically done well with him. Since 2006, Baltimore is 7-1 in games that Lewis has missed due to injury, :and the numbers suggest that their defense will do better now that he’s gone:

According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Ravens have allowed fewer yards per play over the past five seasons with Lewis off the field (4.3) than on it (4.9). That also goes for touchdowns allowed with Lewis off the field (one in 59.2 plays) compared to when he’s on it (one in every 40.5 plays). This trend will be tested against a Texans offense that ranks fifth in the NFL in scoring (28.8 points).

Browns Head Coach Pat Shurmur stated after Friday’s practice that RB Trent Richardson (ribs) got through a full session without experiencing any setbacks and will be ready to go Sunday vs. the Colts.
