NFL News and Views: Panthers fire G.M. Marty Hurney


Panthers owner Jerry Richardson announces Monday that Marty Hurney has been relieved of his duties as general manager.


Week 7 didn’t see as many significant injuries as past weeks have, but by far the biggest injury came in the form of Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew, who suffered a serious foot injury that knocked him out of the the teams’ game vs. the Raiders early in the first-quarter. Head Coach Mike Mularkey said he doesn’t know how long Maurice will be out.


Jones-Drew wasn’t the only Jags player to suffer a significant injury, as QB Blaine Gabbert will undergo an MRI tofday on his injured left, non-throwing shoulder after he injured it in the teams’ 26-23 overtime loss to the Raiders on Sunday.


Making his 2012 NFL debut, Ravens OLB Terrell Suggs played more than half of Baltimore’s defensive snaps in his return from an achilles’ injury.


The Redskins have reached out to free agent TE Chris Cooley after Fred Davis suffered a season-ending injury during the teams’ 27-23 loss to the Giants. The two sides will likely finalize a deal soon.


Browns rookie RB Trent Richardson revealed to reporters yesterday after the teams’ 17-13 loss to the Colts that his rib cartilage injury is worse than people think.
