Its’ that time of the year folks. No, I’m not talking about Christmas shopping, trick-or-treating, or watching the Walking Dead. Fan voting for the 2013 Pro Bowl began today, and you can vote online and on your mobile phones’ internet by going to NFL.com/probowl.
I bring this up after several Bengals were unceremoniously snubbed from the initial list of Pro Bowlers in 2011. The biggest of which was defensive-tackle Geno Atkins, who despite leading all DT’s with 7.5 sacks, was not named to the initial list, but was rather named later on as an alternate to Vince Wilfork after his Patriots made the Super Bowl.
A.J. Green was the lone Bengal to make the initial roster, but that shouldn’t be the case this year. Atkins is having an All-Pro season, again leading all DTs with 7 sacks already and grading out as the #1 defensive tackle according to Pro Football Focus at +22.8, a full 7 points ahead of the next player in Tampa Bay’s Gerald McCoy.
He deserves to be one of leading vote-getters, and should be named one of the two DT starters. Its’ up to you Bengals fans to help make it happen.
