With all of this promise that this Bengals team exudes, I decided to look up the definition of the word in the dictionary:
“prom·ise (pr m s)
a. A declaration assuring that one will or will not do something; a vow.
b. Something promised.
2. Indication of something favorable to come; expectation: a promise of spring in the air.
3. Indication of future excellence or success: a player of great promise.”
After looking at the actual definition, wouldn’t it be fair to say that every team in the NFL has promise according to someone. So maybe when the coaching staff is going over its “promising” roster during the off week, what they should be looking at is guys they can work with. Personally, I don’t want any more promises. I want results. I want guys that can produce results and coaches that can get results.
It is the midway point in a crazy season that has a lot of teams clumped together in the standings. So there is still a chance for the Bengals to deliver on their promises. I don’t think Cincinnati fans should give up just yet. But if they don’t turn something around soon, it could spell disaster for the Bengals once again. Maybe it is time for a new promise.
