Scouting the AFC North: Ravens Facing Familiar Foe in Carson Palmer

When the Baltimore Ravens welcome the Oakland Raiders to town on Sunday, they’ll be facing a very familiar foe in QB Carson Palmer, who played against Baltimore 13 times as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals from 2004-10, posting a 9-4 record while passing for 3,202 yards and had several memorable comeback-victories:

Since making his stunning comeback from a torn right Achilles tendon, all-Pro OLB Terrell Suggs has totaled eight tackles, one sack and one batted pass in two games, and will be making his home debut on Sunday.

The Browns have lost 19 of 25 games under current Head Coach Pat Shurmur, and with new ownership set to take over, a massive overhaul of the personnel departemnt will likely leave Shurmur without a job as ESPN examines how the once-promising head-coaching candidate has been fallen short.

ESPN did an in-depth breakdown of how the Steelers have turned around their ground attack which got off to a historically bad start, but has since become one of the most efficient running games in the NFL:

Point of season Yards per carry Rush yards per game TDs
First five games 2.9 74.8 3
Last three games 5.1 155.0 2

CB Ike Taylor was named AFC defensive player of the week after recording seven tackles and one interception in the 24-20 win vs. the Giants, and becomes the second player in the AFC North to win the award after Bengals DE Michael Johnson claimed it in the teams’ Week 3 win over the Redskins.
