Despite being out of the playoff race, the New York Jets continue to be in the NFL spotlight. They made headlines yesterday after they announced their intentions to bench their “supposed” franchise QB Mark Sanchez in favor Greg McElroy. This apparently has Tim Tebow feeling “misled” to the point he could ask for his release or a trade this offseason, making him one of the better backup QBs available.
Even with a $10 million 2013 salary, Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson is expected to be back with the team in 2013. The once All-Pro back is on pace for 1,325 rushing yards at nearly 5.0 yards per carry, and even though those kind of numbers don’t warrant a $10 million salary the Titans are apparently intent on building their offense around Johnson and their young franchise QB Jake Locker.
The Washington Redskins are holding out hope that starting QB Robert Griffin III (knee) can play against the Philadelphia Eagles this week with the Skins’ playoff lives on the line. If he can’t go, Kirk Cousins will get his second-straight start after leading Washington to a convincing 38-21 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
After an embarrassing 31-7 loss to the Carolina Panthers, the San Diego Chargers are now in full rebuilding mode as they’ve placed WR Malcom Floyd (ankle), RB Ryan Mathews (collarbone), and OG Reggie Wells (undisclosed) on season-ending injured reserve.
Head Coach Mike Tomlin says Taylor will miss his third straight game while recovering from a fractured ankle. The Steelers also placed backup CB DeMarcus Van Dyke on injured reserve with a shoulder injury and signed CB Justin King in his place.
