NFL News: Mariucci may Coach Chargers, & Latest Tim Tebow Controversey

NFL Network analyst Steve Mariucci is reportedly interested in coaching the San Diego Chargers, who are set to fire their current head coach, Norv Turner, at season’s end. “Mooch”, as he goes by as an analyst on the NFL Network, has been out of coaching since 2005 after he was fired by the Detroit Lions, and has a career 72-67 record coaching the Lions and the San Francisco 49ers.

The Chicago Bears and head coach Lovie Smith are optimistic that Pro Bowl MLB Brian Urlacher (hamstring) will be able to return in Week 17 against the Detroit Lions with the bears’ slim playoff hopes still alive. .

The New York Jets have been a mess at QB all season long, and backup QB Tim Tebow was so frustrated when the starting job was given to Greg McElroy, he reportedly told the coaches he didn’t want to be used in any Wildcat packages Sunday against the San Diego Chargers, a game in which McElroy was sacked 11 times in the Jets ultimately lost, 27-17.

The NFL announced last night that the Week 17 showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins has been flexed to Sunday Night Football on NBC on December 30. That game will determine the winner of the NFC East.
