Per Joe Reedy, the Cincinnati Bengals have claimed WR Dane Sanzenbacher on waivers after the
Chicago Bears the cut second-year wide receiver on Monday. IN order to make room for him, the team placed CB
Dre Kirkpatrick on the IR, ending his disappointing rookie campaign.
Sanzenbacher was originally signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State following the 2011 NFL Draft. He finished his rookie season in the NFL with 27 receptions for 276 yards and three TDs and was the first undrafted Bears rookie to score more than one TD since
Dennis McKinnon in 1983.
The former Buckeye appeared in five games this year, making one reception for seven yards. He was was inactive for the 10th time this season in Sunday’s 28-13 victory over the
Arizona Cardinals. The Bengals had been playing with just five active receivers since
Mohamed Sanu was placed on the IR, and now will have a sixth in case anyone else gets hurt. Don’t be surprised if Dane is able to eventually surpass Ryan Whalen on the depth chart, as he’s accounted for just three receptions in his last seven games.
