Cardinals on the Verge of Hiring Andy Reid

Tim Ring of KTVK-TV in Arizona is reporting that the Arizona Cardinals are very close to hiring recently fired Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid as their next head coach. Reid was let go by Philly on Monday after 14 seasons as the Eagles HC, and was the longest-tenured head coach in the NFL prior to his release. Since 1990, there have been only seven of the 73 first-time head coaches remain with their team for eight or more years.

During his 14-year tenure, Reid has compiled the best win total (120), winning percentage (.609) and playoff victory total (10) in team history. He captured six division titles and five trips to the NFC Championship game. He was immediatly tabbed as one of the top free agent coaches when he was let go.

If this report is accurate, then that would leave six vacant NFL head-coaching jobs, and increases the likelihoods that the Bengals are able to retain both DC Mike Zimmer and OC Jay Gruden.
