If the Bengals are to find a complimentary runningback to go with BenJarvus Green-Ellis to improve the running game, there will be a number of descent targets in this year’s free agent runningback class. Evan Silva of RotoWorld broke down all of the backs who are either scheduled to be come free agents, or players who may be on the market once they’re cut from their current team.
Here is his release candidate whom I believe the Bengals could go after:
Ahmad Bradshaw — Bradshaw’s feet and knees have become unreliable to the point that he can barely practice anymore leading up to games. Although still effective on the field, the Giants may deem Bradshaw’s $4 million in salary and bonuses too costly for a likely timeshare back lacking durability. They could save $1.5 million versus the cap by releasing Bradshaw after the season.
Bradshaw is coming off of a down season, and will not be able to demand the contract he was originally signed to. This is typically where Mike Brown gets his best value players, and if the Bengals like one of these two more than they like any of the draft-eligible RBs, we could see them inquire about Bradshaw.
It’s also worth noting that Bradshaw was scheduled to make a trip to Cincinnati to visit with the team when he was a free agent in 2011.
