So there’s that. This is the only other confirmed interview for Jay Gruden. Even though he interviewed the Jacksonville Jaguars last year, they have yet to show any interest this year after firing Mike Mularkey.
The Bengals dodged a bullet yesterday with the Browns’ hiring of Panthers Offensive Coordinator Rob Chudzinski as their new head coach. Cleveland was reportedly set to have Mike Zimmer in for his second interview, a sign that they were strongly considering him, but alas, he remains in Cincinnati for the time being.
There is still a good chance that the Bengals lose at least one coordinator this offseason, the likeliest of which being assistant coach Hue Jackson. According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the Carolina Panthers are the latest to inquire about the former Oakland Raiders Head Coach, as they’ve asked for permission to interview Jackson for the vacant offensive coordinator job left by the departure of Chudzinski.
The St. Louis Rams are also reportedly showing interest in Jackson. He may also be a candidate for the New York Jets’ OC position, but they’re reportedly close to a deal with Marty Morningway.
As for current Bengals OC Jay Gruden, the latest has him as a candidate in San Diego, though no formal interviews have been arranged:
Chargers will interview Whisenhunt Sat. Also talking to Arians. McCoy and Jay Gruden are on their radar too
