This image is the last burning memory Bengals fans have of middle linebacker Rey Maualuga. His play has left much more to be desired after he was selected in the second-round of the 2009 NFL Draft, but has never lived up to his potential, and now with his rookie contract expiring, many in Cincinnati want him gone, and he knows his time might be up:
I really don’t know if they want me back. It’s something I guess my agent will work it out with them, and I’m just going to go through the process like everybody else does and see how it goes, as far as visiting teams and talking to other coaches. I’ve never been through this process yet. I’m just going to go through it and see how it falls into place.
Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer came out and publicly admitted that his starting MLB needs to have thicker skin, and left the impression that while fans are ready to give up on Rey, he’s not:
He cares about what everyone thinks. What the fans or family says. I say, ‘don’t read that stuff. You don’t need to know what other people think. You need to worry about what Marvin and I think and what the other guys on defense think. It doesn’t matter what Joe from Kenwood thinks.
