The Cincinnati Bengals are expected to promote linebackers coach Paul Guenther to replace now-departed defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, That’s because it’s been believed that the Bengals could block any team from interviewing and subsequently hiring Guenther to be their DC.
One would assume Zimmer would like to bring Guenther with him to Minnesota to become his DC, and there may be a loophole that allows that to happen, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan:

It actually makes since that there may be a clause in Guenther’s contract that allows him to leave with Zimmer, since that would help him transition from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator if he does so under Zimmer.
“I like working with Zim because he’s so aggressive and likes to be on the cutting edge,” Guenther said in a previous interview. “It’s important to understand the whole concept. What kind of routes are they running against the pressures? What are the protection schemes against the pressures we run? Get players to understand how they react as well.”

While he may be able to leave, it’s widely believed that Guenther wants to remain in Cincinnati and continue to work with the likes of Pro Bowlers Leon Hall, Vontaze Burfict and Geno Atkins.
