Every week from now until the NFL Draft in April, Fansided.com’s writers will be unveiling new and updated versions of their own 2013 NFL Mock Drafts. During this period, I will be writing up weekly break-downs and providing analysis on each of Cincinnati’s projected selections from Fansided’s weekly installments. Now, let’s get to my take on who Josh Sanchez believes will be selected by the Bengals (pick #21 of 32 in the 1st Round) in his latest Mock Draft:
21. Cincinnati Bengals – Kenny Vaccaro, Safety, Texas
In a division with Ben Roethlisberger and his speedy wideouts, Joe Flacco who is coming into his own and then the Browns who are preparing to install a vertical passing game, you need to add help in the secondary. What better way to do that than to add a rangy safety?
The Bengals are in need of a safety with Chris Crocker aging and no proven backup behind he or Reggie Nelson. As we saw in the playoff loss to Houston, Cincinnati was one injury away from having their defensive backfield exposed, and Crocker’s absence in that game was costly. At 6’1″ 220 lbs, Vaccaro has the size and speed to keep up with today’s NFL tight ends, as well as come up to the LOS in run support. This would be an ideal pick,
Oh, and in case you were wondering who the Steelers selected:
17. Pittsburgh Steelers – Manti Te’o, Linebacker, Notre Dame
Pittsburgh needs to go through a youth movement on the defensive side of the ball and there would be no better way to start than to bring in Manti Te’o. Te’o would be a star in the Steelers scheme as he would be able to run free with the big bodies up front eating up blockers. Te’o also brings incredible leadership which would be valuable to Pittsburgh when their aging stars are out the door.
Because they’ve drafted such high-character players recently.
