There was also a previous story via Yahoo Sports that reported Lewis had been suspected of using banned substances previously:

S.W.A.T.S. founder Mitch Ross provided several text messages from a phone number belonging to All-Pro Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis acknowledging receipt of shipments of the spray and asking for more.

This doesn’t look good for Lewis’reputation, but won’t hurt him on the field, as any investigation the NFL would initiate would be too late to prevent him from playing in the Super Bowl. It could however damage his Hall-of-Fame chances if NFL voters are anything like MLB voters, who have repeatedly kept anyone accused of taking PEDs out of their HOF.

Its worth noting though that while its a banned substance, IGF-1 goes untested for. So while Lewis has allegedly broken a rule, not having a punishment for it shows how much the NFL cares (or doesn’t) about the issue, and would rather have Lewis ride off into the sunset of retirement as a hero.

That’s what we’re supposed to believe, right?
