An exhilarating Saturday night basketball contest just ended after going in 5OT. Yes, that’s five overtimes. You read that correctly.
The Louisville Cardinals visited the home of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a college basketball game of two top 25 teams- Louisville being ranked No. 11 before the game, and Notre dame No. 25.
The Fighting Irish proved their name as they truly fought their way to a tiring, exciting victory as the overtimes started to feel like a second game happening before the eyes of college basketball fans.
For Notre Dame, the points were spread around by several players, including a team-leading 19 from Jerian Grant. Gerrick Sherman added 17 off the Notre Dame bench.
Chane Behanan led the way for the Cardinals, scoring an astounding 30 points, after he made 65 percent of his two-point shots. He also shared a team-leading 13 rebounds with fellow center Gorqui Dieng.
Luke Hancock added 22 points off the bench for Louisville.
Down 60-54 in the second quarter with 33 seconds to go, a 3-point jump shot by Notre Dame’s Grant, followed by a layup and a free throw paved the way for overtime.
Eight, seven, eight, and ten points were scored by each team in the first four respective overtimes, as the game easily ran past midnight.
The score of 104-101 ran final at 12:39 EST, capping a game fought hard by both sides.
