Free agent cornerback Terence Newman continues to struggle on where he will play in 2013, as he’s mulling over contract offers from the Oakland Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals. With the Bengals already having Leon Hall, Adam Jones, and 2012 first-rounder Dre Kirkpatrick on the roster, it’s safe to say the Raiders are probably offering more money right now, while the Bengals offer him a greater chance to compete in the playoffs.
Since 2003, the Raiders are 45-111 with no playoff appearances. They would have to be offering a significantly better deal to make Newman want to sign with them. Still, it’s clearly a tough decision for him based just his tweets from this week:
Decision hopefully today or tomorrow.Have yet to speak in depth to my agent.

Ok make it the end of the week for the decision.Just spoke to him and he has to have a conversation with Reggie McKenzie and Miss Blackburn.

Sorry to say that I have yet to come up with a decision.Too important to put a time frame on but it will be done soon.Salute to all fans — terence newman (@terencenewman) March 22, 2013
My guess is someone else will swoop in and sign Newman. I just don’t think the Bengals are offering him the kind of money he deserves after being the 19th-highest rated corner by Pro Football Focus in 2012. Watch out for CB-needy teams like the Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, or Sand Diego Chargers to enter the Newman sweepstakes before all is said and done.
