NFL Draft: Cincinnati Bengals Favoring Safety with First-Pick

With only Andre Smith left for the Bengals to re-sign, the most glaring hole is at safety after Cincinnati bypassed on re-signing Nate Clements and Chris Crocker, who started nearly every game last year at strong safety. With that in mind, Geoff Hobson of believes Cincinnati will look to draft a safety early in the draft:

The one hole they have to fill is the safety spot manned by free agent Chris Crocker. It’s widely believed the Bengals are going to draft a safety to pair opposite Reggie Nelson in the first two rounds.

This is also falls in line with what Bengals Beat Writer Joe Reedy predicted earlier this week when his latest mock draft had Florida safety Matt Elam as the Bengals’ first-round choice. As of now, here are some potential safety prospects and their projected draft round:

1st round

Kenny Vaccaro,Texas(6-1, 215)

Jonathan Cyprien, FIU (6-0, 209)

2nd round

Matt Elam, Florida(5-9, 202)

Eric Reid, LSU (6-2, 212)

Bacarri Rambo,Georgia (6-2, 212)

3rd round

Phillip Thomas, Fresno St.(6-1, 210)

Shawn Williams, Georgia (6-0, 210)

T.J McDonald, USC (6-2, 212)
