The Bengals brought in another quarterback to compete for the backup spot when they claimed John Skelton off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals yesterday.
My biggest strength right now is a strong arm. I’m still young. I’m still learning the game. But when it comes to driving a 20-yard comeback or a crossing route down the field, that’s a throw I’m comfortable making. There’s always things to work on. There’s always things that can get better. I know my accuracy and my completion ranking (percentage) isn’t where it needs to be. And some of my decisions in Arizona have been questioned. But I think with the right coaching staff and the right personnel around me I can improve on all of that.
Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was pleased with the signing and added competition:
We’re glad to add John to cultivate a competitive situation behind Andy Dalton. He’s a young player (age 25), but he has had valuable experience starting and leading a team in the NFL.
