When the words “Florida” and “safety” are used in the same sentence, most draftniks immediately think of Matt Elam, who’s regarded as one of the draft’s best defensive back prospects.

However, you can’t overlook the other Florida safety from last year’s defense that ranked 5th in the nation in total defense. That man would be Josh Evans, who projects as a free safety at the NFL level, as he has the speed and reaction time that NFL teams covet in today’s pass-happy league.

Evans spent 2009 as a backup and special teams player, which he totaled six tackles. In 2010, Evans played in 13 games, and earned three starts. He had 14 tackles and one interception on the year. The following season, Evans played in all 13 games, and saw eight starts. On the season, he registered 51 tackles and one interception. In his senior year, Evans started in all 13 games, and led the team with 79 tackles, 4.5 of which were for loss. He also recorded 2.5 sacks, three interceptions, and three passes defended.
