The Bengals finally were able to solidify their linebacker depth with their 4th-round selection of Texas A&M’s Sean Porter.
|118||B+||Bengals select: Sean Porter, OLB, Texas A&MA quick-twitch pass rusher who can blitz and also flashes solid coverage ability. Not an ideal run LB, but from Manny Lawson to James Harrison, it’s obvious Cincy values blitz ability highly in its strongside backers.|
COMPARES TO: Nick Barnett, OLB, Buffalo Bills — Like the former Oregon State standout, Porter is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, master of none type. His size and athleticism, however, is sure to draw plenty of admirers on draft day and he should prove to be a capable starter early in his NFL career
Bengals linebackers coach Paul Guenther on Porter:
He’s a good cover guy. Took over Von Miller’s spot. He offers a lot at the table as far as the different things he can do for us.
Head coach Marvin Lewis on Porter:
Has great athleticism. He has played inside and outside. He can run and cover. Guy similar to Thomas Howard.
Bengals get a guy who can play a little bit of a joker role for them. He will be listed as a linebacker but he can also rush the passer and make plays behind the line of scrimmage. He is a smaller player, but was productive for the Aggies.
