Quarterback Andy Dalton is excited, and according to teammates during Bengals OTA’s, he is confident as well. Dalton should be, he commented at OTA’s that the offensive personnel are more familiar with each other and the playbook, making expanding the offense much easier. Then add in the addition of rookies Tyler Eifert , Giovanni Bennard, Rex Burkhead to go along with second year players like Kevin Zietler, Mo Sanu, and Marvin Jones. This allows them to do more on an offense that seemed to sputter to an almost stop at times the last two years. In my opinion, they have the personnel to at least win one playoff game. Here is some possible offensive personal/formation that could be coming to a field near you.
The combinations and possibilities are going to be interesting to watch. We should see more two tight ends sets but also see tight ends being used all over the field. If 2011 4th round pick Orlson Charles can hold up in the run game, look for him to possibly take over a situational FB and H-Back role more suited for a West Coast offense approach. Having guys like Bennard, Eifert, and also Burkhead will hopefully open things up and make the offense less prone to the dreaded 3 and out or 3rd and 8. Also, don’t sleep on Andrew Hawkins being used in multiple roles as well. Is it September yet?!
