You pat your teammates on the behind after a good play. Apparently, doing the same to your lawyer isn’t the best idea. At least, that’s what former Bengals star, Chad Johnson, found out earlier today.
Johnson was about a minute away from exiting a Broward courthouse, having worked out a plea deal for a 2012 domestic violence case.
Broward County Judge Kathleen McHugh complimented Johnson’s lawyer, and Johnson followed with a quick pat to the butt as his congratulations.
Although it drew chuckles from the audience, Judge McHugh wasn’t amused, and revoked his plea deal, saying:
“Mr. Johnson, I don’t know that you’re taking this whole thing seriously. I’m not going to accept these plea negotiations. This isn’t a joke.”
Johnson answered after the 15 minutes break, saying, “I had no intent to make this a joke. It’s not funny.” He was photographed with his head lowered in dismay, following his sentence of 30 days in jail.
