According to Jamieson Welsh of The Opinion Nation, former Cincinnati Bengals great and current free agent wide receiver Chad Johnson could be returning to the NFL soon, as he will work out for the Denver Broncos next week:
According to sources close to the situation, veteran free agent WR Chad Johnson will have a private workout with the Denver Broncos next week.
If all goes well, Johnson will receive a non-guarantee camp contract for a chance to make the team. Hopefully for Chad, he is in shape and prepared to give it one last go because word gets out quick on what takes place in these workouts.
We’re taking this report with a grain of salt, as they’re the only ones reporting it right now, but it would be nice to see Chad, one of the best receivers in the NFL over the past decade, get an oppurtunity to finish out his NFL career by walking off of a football field one last time.
He was drafted by the Bengals in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft, and played for the Bengals for ten seasons before being traded to the Patriots and later signing with the Miami Dolphins.
For his career, Johnson has 751 catches for 10,783 yards (14.4 ypc) and 66 touchdowns, and owns 7 Bengals franchise receiving records. He is also a six-time NFL Pro Bowler and has been named to three NFL All-Pro teams.
The last image we have of Chad in football is him being cut by the Miami Dolphins on an episode of HBO’s “Hard Knocks”.
