NFL: Dolphins Bypass Vonta Leach. Rams sign Will Witherspoon

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins will not sign free agent fullback Vonta Leach after it appeared a deal was imminent between the two sides. The Baltimore Ravens released Leach earlier this offseason, and he’s since drawn interest from the New York Giants, Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs. Going back to Baltimore  does remain of interest to Vonta Leach

Will Witherspoon has been hoping and waiting for an NFL team to sign him, and the 11-year veteran looks like he’s not waiting any longer:

Witherspoon last played for the St. Louis Rams was in 2009 before being shipped to the Philadelphia Eagles. Witherspoon was named the Rams’ MVP in 2007 after leading the team in tackles for two consecutive seasons. He has experience under current Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher after playing for the Tennessee Titans the past three seasons.

Retired running back Ricky Williams will join the staff at University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio to help coach running backs. In 2002, Williams was the NFL leading rusher and was named Pro Bowl MVP, but his career would spiral out of control after that, as drugs and alcohol nearly led to a permanent ban from the NFL.

After a significant amount of rehab, as well as a stint in the CFL, Williams ended his 11-year NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens in 2012. Hopefully, he can use his past mistakes to help a younger generation of football players avoid the same pitfalls in life.
