NFL: Washington Redskins may hold Robert Griffin III out of Preseason

The NFL got great news Monday when Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III announced he has been medically cleared for the start of training camp. That doesn’t mean however the Skins are ready to let RG3 fully return to practice and participate in the preseason. ESPN is reporting that the Skins plan to hold RGIII out of every preseason game, meaning we likely won’t see
Griffin is only six months removed from reconstructive knee surgery after suffering a torn ACL in the Skins’ playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks. For now, he’s but managed to avoid opening camp on the PUP, and appears likely to be ready for the opening game. Dr. James Andrews, who performed Griffin’s ACL and LCL repair, has given Griffin clearance.

The Redskins open the NFL regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football on September 9th.

Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson is widely viewed as the best WR in the NFL, but his running mates are suspect at best. In hopes of helping Megatron out, the Lions will work out free agent WRs Steve Breaston and Chaz Schilens, in addition to Laurent Robinson this week.

Eagles starting center Jason Kelce has been medically cleared for full participation at training camp. He appears to be fully recovered from his torn ACL he suffered in Week 2 last season.

The Baltimore Ravens are already having to replace a number of players from last yeast year’s Super Bowl team, and now they’ll be without wide receiver Jacoby Jones, who has been placed on the non-football injury list because he didn’t pass the mandatory training camp conditioning test. Jones was expected to contend for the #2 receiver alongside Torrey Smith
