It’s been a rough day around the NFL, and it’s not getting any better as the first week of NFL training camps end. On the same day the Philadelphia Eagles lost wide receiver Jeremy Maclin to a season-ending ACL tear, the Baltimore Ravens may lose Pro Bowl tight end Dennis Pitta for the entire 20123 NFL season after he suffered a seriously dislocated hip in practice, and is already undergoing surgery to repair it:

Pitta comes off a season in which he set career highs in receptions (61), yards (669) and touchdowns (seven) for the Super Bowl champion Ravens. The fourth-year pro finished the 2012 NFL postseason with 14 catches for 163 yards and three touchdowns in four victories.

If he misses the entire year, the Ravens will have effectively lost two of their top three receiving targets in Pitta and receiver Anquan Boldin.

While the Ravens are a division rival to the Cincinnati Bengals, you never want to see this kind of injury happen to anyone, and we hope and pray he’s able to return to the game he loves this year.
