#65 Clint Boling, Offensive Guard
Weight: 311 lbs.
Hometown: Alpharetta, GA
NFL Experience: 2 Years
In the beginning of the 2012 season, many believed that there would be a battle for the left guard position, but due to Travelle Wharton’s injury, Clint Boling was plugged right in and hasn’t looked back since. Boling contains a good-sized frame and definitely has room to grow, meaning he can bulk up to take on bigger defenders. After a year of starting all 16 games, it’s obvious that Clint Boling is going to be the Bengal’s left guard for years to come. Boling has very good technique and strength so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him improve from 2012. Chemistry was built within the offensive line last year and all players are returning so this line will continue to improve together each and every week.
Clint Boling has a strong initial punch, allowing him to get good angles and push the defender back or hold his own right after the snap. He uses his strength to steer the defender whichever way he desires, something he does very well in pass protection. Boling is also a very intelligent player and recognizes when he should pick up a blitzer, something he doesn’t get much credit for. Hands are always keeping the defender away from his body and he uses his feet consistently, allowing him to better finish the play.
Displaying good instincts, Boling was actually one of the best guards during the beginning of the season. Clint Boling was ranked as the 23rd best offensive guard last season by Pro Football Focus, showing how far he has come since the 2011 season.
