The Baltimore Ravens are trying to find a #2 receiver to pair with Torrey Smith after the team traded away Anquan Boldin this offseason, and had to watch the ever-reliable Dennis Pitta fracture his hip during the first training camp practice, and his 2013 season end before it even began.
The Ravens are dealing with another significant injury after the team announced Monday that tight end Ed Dickson has a slight tear in his hamstring. The Ravens are now down to third-string TE Visanthe Shiancoe, and it’s been 20 months since Shiancoe caught a pass in a regular-season game. Shiancoe has practiced with the starters over the last two days.
So who is going to pick up the slack during camp and give Joe Flacco someone to consistency throw to and count on? As of now, Jacoby Jones is starting opposite Torrey Smith. The top backups are Tandon Doss and Deonte Thompson, both of whom have a shot at unseating Jones.
Jones, Doss, Thompson and David Reed have all made their case by putting on a good showing thus far into camp. Jones has been the one shining as of late,so perhaps the former Dancing with the Stars participant will be more featured in the Ravens offense this year after being a pivotal player on special teams last year for the eventual Super Bowl champions.
