On the injury front, rookie offensive lineman Tanner Hawkinson is out indefinitely, leaving an already depleted Bengals offensive line even thinner. He suffered an ankle injury in the third-quarter of Thursday night’s 34-10 over the Atlanta Falcons. It’s a pretty significant loss, as Hawkinson was versatile enough to play all five spots on the o-line, and was doing just that with a number of injuries keeping several lineman out of practice.
Head Coach Marvin Lewis indicated after the game, Hawkinson isn’t hurt badly enough to be out for the year but he said he’s going to miss some time. It looks significant enough that Anthony Collins remains the first man off the bench to back up Pro Bowler Andrew Whitworth and play some guard.
Pro Bowl left tackle Andrew Whitworth remains out for time being as he continues to work his way back into game shape after offseason knee surgery. Rookie OT Reid Fragel (knee) and starting left guard Clint Boling (knee) have also missed time.
Wide receiver Andrew Hawkins suffered a high-ankle sprain a week ago, and after a week of rehabbing and examining it, the doctors are telling Marvin Lewis he could be out long enough to consider placing him on the Injured Reserve list with a designation to return to the active roster after six weeks.
In order to help with all of the injuries on the offensive line, the Bengals signed Otis Hudson today.
Also on the injury front, Michael Johnson was given a “veteran’s rest” day off, while Brandon Ghee was absent after suffering a shoulder injury during Thursday night’s game.
We’ll have a full recap of today’s practice session, as well as quotes from the coaches and players up later.
