Prior to Saturday’s game, Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com was reporting Porter may have suffered a “significant injury” to his shoulder, “but it’s not clear how significant.”

It was revealed during the broadcast by Director of Player Personnel, Duke Tobin, that Porter had suffered a tear in the labrum of his shoulder, and the team was still in the process of determining how severe the tear was, and would it warrant placing him on the inured reserve list.

As of now,  the Bengals are still  trying to decide if Porter needs season-ending surgery. If they decide that Porter can play in 2013 without further damaging the shoulder and risking his NFL career before it even starts, he could play with a protective-harness on his shoulder, but based on how little he’s stood out in camp thus far, coupled with a crop of undrafted linebackers who’ve looked impressive enough to warrant spots on the 53-man roster, it may be a blessing in disguise for Porter and the Bengals to make this a redshirt season for the rookie fourth-round pick out of Texas A&M.
