After fumbling at the goaline, the Bengals defense nearly got a second-consecutive three-and-out to open the game, buy Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant drew a pass-interference call on Dre Kirkpatrick, who had great coverage on the play, but didn’t turn around to look for the football.
The Bengals defense would still hold and eventually force a Dallas punt, and this looks like the defense that was the best in the NFL at the end of last season. The Cowboys’ first 8 plays went for just 17 yards.
Brandon Tate continued to make everyone take notice tonight vs. the Cowboys, as he exploded with a 75-yard punt-return touchdown to give the Bengals an early 7-0 lead in Dallas.

The defense was looking great early, but once the second-stringers began coming in, Tony Romo went to work, as he completed the next 6-straight passes and eventually hit Dez Bryant in the endzone for a 5-yard TD while Kirkpatrick was once again covering the Pro Bowl receiver one-on-one.
