When Brandon Tate re-signed this offseason to a one-year deal worth less than $1 million, many viewed this as the Bengals just keeping him in case they were to fail to find an adequate replacement. There’s plenty of #5 receivers in this league, and while they might not have the game-breaking ability of Tate on special teams, there are also plenty of guys wise enough to not catch punts on the 1-yard line.
Needless to say, Tate needed a big training camp and preseason in order to earn a roster spot, and he’s done that and more with his play both as a return-man and a receiver.
Tate continued to make everyone take notice tonight vs. the Cowboys with a 75-yard punt-return touchdown to give the Bengals an early 7-0 lead in Dallas.
