If Schaffer was indeed cut, he’s eligible for the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Through four preseason games this year, Schaffer led the team with 21 tackles, and had a great final showing against the Indianapolis Colts, in which he registered a quarterback sack and an interception.
“That’s above my pay grade,” Schaffer said following the game regarding his chances at making the roster. “I think it means something. I know I went out there and played hard. I left it all out there. It’s out of my hands from here. I think the preseason went pretty well for the most part. I still have to get things cleaned up and get better at.”
It looks safe to say Schaffer will be on someone’s team next year. Whether it’s on the Bengals’ practice squad or another team’s 53-man roster won’t be known for another 24 hours. Sept. 1, at noon ET is the claiming period deadline for players placed on waivers during final roster reduction.
