Preseason injuries have hampered Dunlap throughout his career. He missed two games in 2010 due to a concussion and knee strain. In 2011, a knee strain knocked him out of the entire preseason, and last year he only saw a couple of series in the preseason opener before suffering another knee strain. Out of 16 possible career preseason games, Dunlap has played in only four.
But that hasn’t stopped him from being the Bengals’ best pass rusher since joining the team in 2010, and while he might not have put up the sack numbers you’d like to see in the last two seasons, he has led the Bengals in terms of Pro Football Focus’ Pass Rushing Productivity both years.
In 2011, Dunlap registered an outside pressure once every 12 pass rushes, placing him ahead of the likes of Cameron Wake and Clay Matthews and inside the NFL’s Top 10.
