Pittsburgh Steelers starting cornerback Cortez Allen didn’t practice for a second consecutive day because of a sprained ankle. That means today is a critical day if the third-year veteran is to play Monday night vs the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Steelers had high expectations for Georgia LB Jarvis Jones when they selected him 17th-overall in the 2013 NFL Draft, and he’s shown plenty of promise thus far.
Jones split time with Jason Worilds in Sunday’s 16-9 loss to the Tennessee Titans, with Worilds playing 46 snaps to Jones’ 30.
But Jones said this week he is running with the first-team defense in practice, and plans to get his first career start Monday night vs. the Cincinnati Bengals:
“That’s the way it is right now,” Jones said after today’s practice. “As long as I continue to keep doing what I’m doing, I hope it stays like that.” “It’s my dream, it’s something I definitely want to do is start and be in that rotation and fight with my guys,” Jones said. “I just want to continue to strive for the best and keep getting better.”
